Method

Layers, not shortcuts

A patch fails when it is thick, narrow, and proud of the wall. The approach here is the opposite: square the opening, back it solid, then build wide, thin coats that feather out far past the damage so raking light never finds an edge.

  1. 01

    Assess

Identify cause, moisture, and board thickness.

  2. 02

    Cut & back

Square the area and add solid backing.

  3. 03

    Coat

    Tape, bed, fill, feather, sand.

  4. 04

    Match

Rebuild texture and leave it paint-ready.

Patch layers

  • Cut & backing

Square the opening, add solid backing behind the edges.

  • Drywall insert

Fit a same-thickness board flush with the surrounding face.

  • Tape & bed

Embed tape, then bed coat over the joint.

  • Fill & feather

Two wider coats, each feathered past the last.

  • Texture & prep

Match surrounding texture, sand, and dust for paint.
